My Grandmother's Cookbook

A couple weeks ago, I had to make an emergency trip to Texas to prepare for the passing of my sister-in-law, Aleeta. She had been my older sister since I was twelve. I drove straight through and got there the afternoon before she passed. It was a very sad time, but I got to say goodbye, and for that, I'm grateful.

During that week, my mother, sister and I were at the old home place clearing out a storage building. We found my grandmother's recipes (handfolded and in a snuff jar, like they'd just been lifted from her kitchen table), and my sister said we should make a cookbook. That night, I interviewed my mother about my grandmother, and when I got home, with my sister transcribing the hand-written recipes and emailing them to me, I put together the book that tells my grandmother's life.

Here it is, and I'm especially proud of it. It tells stories I already knew, and it tells some I didn't, but the real thing it tells is that my grandmother had a good life, and her recipes are out there for you to enjoy.
