I Hiked a Blizzard on Mother's Day

I arrived in Massachusetts on Saturday, and I knew Sunday would be on my own before my family arrived on Monday.

I decided to hike a mountain to one of the best waterfalls in the state.

I chose Race Brook Falls on Mt. Everett. It's a total of 6 miles in and out and 1800 feet in elevation. I arrived on Saturday to low 60s and sunshine. I woke on Sunday to upper 30s and rain. I didn't let that slow me down. I had foul-weather gear packed in my things!

It never got above 38 degrees all day or stopped raining EXCEPT ON TOP OF MT. EVERETT WHERE IT WAS SNOWING!

I was getting a bit of slush on the windshield on the way, but heading up the mountain, it kept getting colder and the wintry precip heavier. I passed two hikers coming down and they said, "It's white on top." That got me excited.

Here's a pic. It was the best hike ever, into the snow, and at one point, it was almost a whiteout around me. Oh, and yes, I got soaked. I discovered my waterproof outer wear is not really waterproof for FOUR HOURS OF RAIN AND SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN! I was soaked and walking around in 38 degree weather. I was okay (hiking warms you up) until I stopped by the grocery store (still soaked) and came back outside afterward. An hour in the jetted tub after I got home resolved that.
