About to Head to Massachusetts

Another week and I'll be in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts. My last trip there was 4 years ago. I have Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York on my agenda during my 12 days there. I've convinced my mother and sister to join me, and we'll try to get to see my aunt in Providence.

I'm excited. This is May, and Mass is beautiful in May. We're planning on a covered bridges tour, hitting at least one a day. I have selected the best in all six states. The evenings will be booked with consultations with clients, but I'll have my days free to wander some of the most stunning spring countryside in all of the USA.

My Grandmother's Cookbook

A couple weeks ago, I had to make an emergency trip to Texas to prepare for the passing of my sister-in-law, Aleeta. She had been my older sister since I was twelve. I drove straight through and got there the afternoon before she passed. It was a very sad time, but I got to say goodbye, and for that, I'm grateful.

During that week, my mother, sister and I were at the old home place clearing out a storage building. We found my grandmother's recipes (handfolded and in a snuff jar, like they'd just been lifted from her kitchen table), and my sister said we should make a cookbook. That night, I interviewed my mother about my grandmother, and when I got home, with my sister transcribing the hand-written recipes and emailing them to me, I put together the book that tells my grandmother's life.

67th South Texas Assembly of God District Convention

My wife is headed to the 67th South Texas Assembly of God District Convention in San Antonio, Texas, next month (May).

Here's the cool thing. The District Superintendent, a man I worked East Texas summer camps with as a teen, saw some of my books, and he asked if I could use his blog posts and have him one ready for the convention.

Wow, I thought. In three weeks? Yet, here it is. I pulled out the stops, set everything aside, and I think it looks pretty good. It should be live on Amazon within two days.

Brushed by a Tornado

On my way to Texas last weekend, I hit rain about Atlanta, and it drizzled, spit, and often poured every mile until I reached Dallas. Yesterday, I headed back this way, and the rain hit before I could pack the car. Then it poured, slammed down, and pelted the car from the driveway to Atlanta. Coming through Alabama, I noticed numerous large metal traffic signs twisted and bent for several miles. I knew the rain was blistering and the wind was whistling, but I was driving a sturdy car and hadn't been worried. Then I saw a massive toppled tree covering the Interstate on the opposide side of the median. My wife looked up the local weather and found a video of a tornado that had hit barely an hour before.

God watches out for us, even when we don't know we need his care.

Back in Texas after 2 Weeks

I'm back in Texas after only 2 weeks away. It's a double whammy. I'm taking the opportunity to meet with a client I missed on my last trip, but I also have a family health emergency that's come up suddenly. We're certain it will not turn out well. Prayers requested.

I'm grateful I'd done the yard and the flowerbeds this week, as well as thoroughly cleaned the two aquariums and filters yesterday morning. When the call came, I threw together my suitcases and drove away for an 18-hour drive.
